Some super great news to share this week. I’m feeling super reinvigorated.
Feel Good Sustainability News:
Did Manchin really change his mind? - The senate for the first time in three decades is set to pass serious climate legislation and it comes with a dedication of $369B. Maybe Manchin finally decided he did not want to be recorded on the wrong side of history. Whatever it was, we will take it.
It’s important to realize that we did not get here overnight. This has been a long time coming. What this tells me is yes, each of our actions matter no matter how small.
Now here are some benefits for you coming out of that bill:
$7,500 tax credit on new electric vehicle purchase
Tax credits (not sure how defined yet) to make homes more energy efficient through rooftop solar panels, heat pumps, and water heaters
Disadvantaged communities that suffer the brunt of fossil fuel pollution have also been recognized, with $60bn dedicated to environmental justice projects across the US. (TheGuardian)
Not So Feel Good Sustainability News:
Monarchs are officially endangered - The Monarch populations, known for their black and orange wings, suffer from extreme population loss because of habitat loss due to climate change and the use of pesticides poisoning the butterflies and eradicating their preferred milkweed.The population has declined about 84% between 1996 and 2014.
